What is energy?  Come explore where energy comes from, and what it does. Make connections between science in the classroom and your every day lives as we explore energy.  Students will investigate the sun as an energy source, and how energy from the sun powers life.  How do you use energy at home? Where does it come from? Learn and share in this class on every day energy.  

​Outside Classwork: Most work will be finished in class.  Homework may include watching videos to prepare for class, reading assignments, and/or to finish unfinished classwork and will take less than 1 hour per week.

I have scales, no legs, and can be seen in the warm sun.  What am I?  Use your knowledge and follow the clues to solve mysteries as you become a science detective. Distinguish similarities and differences that help you determine the identity of an unknown person, place, or thing.

​Native American tradition is deeply connected to nature. Through the oral tradition of legends and animal trickster tales, as well as arts and crafts, your student will explore this important relationship and have fun making connections to their own environment. We will discover our individual animal totem, make and design our own unique Pueblan coil pot, construct our own model tipi, and more. Other topics covered: identify regions of Native American tribes, compare these regions and learn how their survival and craftsmanship depended on their natural environment; learn about legends and, as a class, come up with our own animal tale (ie: How rabbit lost its tail). The following are some of the books and stories we may read: Coyote: A trickster tale from the American Southwest, Raven: A trickster tale from the Pacific Northwest, Crow and Hawk: a Traditional Pueblo Indian Story, The magic of Spider Woman, The legend of Bluebonnet.

From our community to our world, your student will learn the fundamentals of geography. We will identify maps and globes, create a compass rose to learn and practice cardinal directions , identify continents and bodies of water, landforms, and more. In addition to games and hands-on activities, students will create a fun interactive notebook that will lay a foundation for learning about our world. The book Me on the Map will be our introduction to the class, inspiring young students to map their home, neighborhood, country and world. ​

Welcome to our first and second grade enrichment class where students have the opportunity to learn in a warm and engaging classroom environment. This two-day a week class is designed to support the concepts being taught in math and in English language arts. There will be plenty of opportunities to have fun and build friendships. Students participate in activities with partners, small groups, and the entire class, practicing reading, writing, and math skills. 

Through poetry and memorization, fun stories and reader’s theaters, copy-work, games and crafts, your student will practice language arts skills such as penmanship, phonics, grammar, and reading skills. 

In the fall and winter sessions there will be a dedicated time to practice core math concepts and build problem solving and critical thinking skills. Using games and hands-on activities as well as through written work, students strengthen their foundation in essential math skills, building confidence and a love of math. Math will also be integrated into our literature-based activities.  

Join us for a fun-filled year of growth, positive change, and adventure!

Sunny with a chance of hurricanes.  Come explore the powerful forces of nature’s weather.  Conduct experiments to make observations about tornadoes, lightning, and other wacky weather.  Learn about safety during severe weather, and how the sun plays a role in both our daily weather and in our climate.  Umbrellas not required.

Amazing and terrifying at the same time, sharks are fascinating! Shark scientists in this class will explore the role of sharks in the ocean and research different kinds of sharks.  Students will discover what a shark is, how diverse they are, and investigate the adaptations that sharks have to make them such special animals.

The traditional cultures of Finland, Sweden and Norway are magical and inspiring. Through delightful stories of trolls and elves, photos and facts, games and fun hands-on crafts, we will learn the geographical features and culture of each of these countries. We will learn about the day in the life of a Scandinavian child and even how to say something in each language. Stories and characters we may read about include: Elsa Beskow’s Peter in Blueberry Land, The Children of the Forest, The Sun Egg, Rolf Lindberg’s Trolls, Sven Nordqvist’s Findus and Pettson stories, Tove Janson’s Moomin Trolls and Astrid Lindgren’s stories.

Explore the world’s cultures and history through art! Stone age cave paintings, aboriginal kangaroo drawings, and African kente weaving are just some of the art projects we will do in this class. Stories that will introduce us to the countries and cultures of our creations include: The Cave Painter of Lascaux, selected dreamtime aboriginal stories, The Spider Weaver, Anansi the Spider, and more.

This class is the continuation of the first semester first and second grade enrichment class where students have the opportunity to learn in a warm and engaging classroom environment. New students are welcome to join! This two-day a week class continues to support the concepts being taught in math and in English language arts. There will be plenty of opportunities to have fun and build friendships. Students participate in activities with partners, small groups, and the entire class, practicing reading, writing, and math skills.

​LEGO® Storytelling: STAR WARS Edition! teaches character development, symbols, settings, parts of a story and more. Students will solve problems where characters are in a tough situation. They will use LEGO® to present a creative solution to the class. Other skills that will be developed in this class include writing, public speaking, creativity, team work, and presentation! Don’t miss this fun adventure!
