While reading American tall tales, students learn about the common elements and characteristics of tall tales, explore United States geography, and practice mapping skills. Along with geography and new geographical terms and features, the lessons incorporate many parts of language arts including reading, making inferences, sequencing, predicting, vocabulary, and comparing and contrasting. Some of the larger than life characters students meet are Paul Bunyan, John Appleseed, and Slue-foot Sue.
Outside Classwork: Students read related materials and mainly complete assignment not finished in class.
