- learned how the Mission Era ended and what happened to the First Californians.
- Pre- homework for the Gold Rush class was sent out with welcome letter.

- played a game to review facts learned in the first four weeks.
- shared interesting facts about their mission research.
- learned more about the daily life at the missions, including the purpose of the bells, jobs, Native Californians becoming Neophytes, and the challenges the Native Americans and missionaries faced.
- participated in a word search competition to become familiar with the names of missions.
- There is no new homework this week. If you would like to research another mission, just let me know. If you have any assignments that you have not completed, this is your week to finish.

- used maps and placed all 21 of California's Missions on a giant map of California.
- were introduced to mission related vocabulary including: adobe, El Camion Real, Friar, Neophyte, Padre, Presidio, Pueblo, Rancho, and Vaquero.
- discussed the layout of the missions and architecture styles.
- daily life at a mission.
- played a game to become more familiar with the names of the missions.
- Choose one of the twenty-one missions to research and learn more about. Please email me which mission you are interested in, I will send you resources, worksheets, and a color sheet for the mission you chose.
- Class Notes - Please fill in your week 4 notes. The daily life section will be completed next week during class.

1. Choose a fifth California Tribe to research. A worksheet that goes with this mini-project was passed out during class. For this project, use the link below, and choose a tribe you have not studied.

The last two questions require more than one sentence to explain and give details from the reading.

- discussed the mini-report project in detail.
- learned about the explorers during the Age of Discovery that impacted California.
- learned why Spain decided to build missions along the coast. Found out the main two reasons why Spanish Missions were built.
- Learned what else was happening on the land we now call United States during this time.
- were introduced to Mission San Diego de Alcala and Father Junipero Serra.

- played a team review game to recall important facts learned last week during class.
- examined a piece of a grinding stone and pieces of obsidian rock. The obsidian was used for tools and arrowheads.
- learned that acorns were a staple food about 3/4ths of the tribes living in California. Also, learned about the leeching process to pull out the tannic acids.
- visited the Sierra Miwok land and viewed pictures of their homes, roundhouse, football field, and learned about a game they like to play.
- practiced taking slotted notes.

- discussed the the belief that they came across the Bering Strait from Asia at a time when the sea ice was frozen or possibly took boats.
