Kindergarten Explorers - Fall Enrichment Class
Grade: Kindergarten and 5 years old by September 1st
Wednesdays: 9:00-11:00

11 Weeks:  September 11, 18, 25  October 2, 9, 16, 30  November 6, 13, 20  December 4
No Class: October 23 and November 27

Location: Mission Viejo Family YMCA

Course Overview
Kindergarten Explorers is a dynamic 12-week filled with growth and development. In this two-hour enrichment class, we offer a unique kindergarten experience that goes beyond the basics. Our focus is on fostering socialization, building fine and gross motor skills, and nurturing a love for learning. Through penmanship practice, movement activities, and creative projects, students will thrive. Join us as we explore, create, and learn together in this enriching kindergarten experience!

Course Highlights:
  • Socialization: Students will learn to be contributing members of a group.
  • Problem Solving: Strengthen problem-solving abilities.
  • Fine and Gross Motor Skills:
  • Enhance handwriting through penmanship practice.
  • Engage in movement activities to build physical coordination.
Language Arts, Math, and Science:
  • phonics - sorting letters, beginning sounds, sight words, rhyming words, beginning reading activities
  • penmanship practice
  • math - use of ten frames, shape recognition, counting and writing numbers, numbers before and after, addition, clocks
  • creative projects including the four seasons, special holidays
  • Calendar Time: Students will explore days, months, and seasons.

Note: The class accommodates a maximum of ten students. Register early!
Outside Classwork: Minimal—possibly finishing activities started in class.

Kindergarten Explorers- Winter/Spring  Enrichment Class
Kindergarten and 5 years old by September 1st

​13 Weeks: January 22, 29  February 5, 12, 19, 26  March 19, 26  April 2, 9, 23, 30  May 7
(No Class: March 5, 12 and April 16)

Course Description
The Kindergarten Explorers enrichment class is designed to provide a stimulating and engaging experience for young learners. Whether returning students or new to the class, all are welcome to join this enriching journey that fosters growth and development. In this one day a week, with a two-hour class, students interact with their peers and develop essential social skills. Students learn about days, months, and seasons with calendar time each week and participate in engaging projects that encourage creativity and imagination. This class promises an exciting and diverse learning experience for young minds.

Course Highlights:

  • Problem Solving: Strengthen problem-solving abilities.
  • Fine and Gross Motor Skills:
  • Enhance handwriting through penmanship practice.
  • Engage in movement activities to build physical coordination.

Language Arts, Math, and Science:
  • phonics - blends and digraphs, long vowel words, sight words, rhyming words, beginning sounds of words, and early reading activities,
  • writing/penmanship practice - more practice on penmanship, copywork, and spelling simple words
  • math - addition, subtraction, telling time by the hour, measurement, money, skip-counting by 5s and 10s

Note: The class accommodates a maximum of ten students. Register early!
Outside Classwork: Minimal—possibly finishing activities started in class.
